IM2010

In September 2010 the Dutch Circle will host the 16th International Meeting of Slide Rule Collectors.
For the fifth time in the 16-year history of IM's, this will be in The Netherlands.
The organizing committee of the Dutch KRING has begun preparations for the meeting early this year.
For your diary: the meeting will be held on Friday and Saturday, September 17-18, 2010.
The chosen location is the old city of Leiden, see map by Joan Blaeu from the 1640s:

.

Leiden was established in the 12th century, blossomed with the linen trade,
and played an important role in the late 1500s to early 1600s, during the “80-years war” with Spain.
For the accommodation of participants and for the first day of the meeting,
we have reserved rooms in a hotel close to the A4 motorway between The Hague and Amsterdam.
The second day of the meeting will be spent in a building at Leiden University,
close to the Rapenburg canal in the old city center.
Leiden has many canals and waterways within and around its center,
and a boat trip along the canals will be part of the program for participants and partners.
As in previous Dutch IMs, the partner program on the second day will contain special visits to a museum
and other places of cultural interest in Leiden.

The main program has been established: we have secured commitments from Dutch and foreign friends
for presentations on such diverse subjects as Gunter rules, historical log-tables, French slide rules, mini slide rules,
slide rule accuracy and precision, cryptographic machines like the ENIGMA from WWII, and more.
As in previous years, the papers associated with the presentations will be issued in the printed Proceedings
The meeting language will mostly be English, but for the French subjects we will organize dual-language sessions.
In addition to these rather serious subjects, there will be lighter notes, such as the swap fair,
the One-Off’s displays, and social events.

Look at the information sheet for more details on programme and costs:
