Unknown slide rule (reddit MrAutomation2000, via Dale Rupert)
“Instant Set”
Data:
- 13” long, 5” wide rectilinear slide rule
- Slides are aluminum with laminated paper glued to it.
- The body is made of a dense cardboard stacked and glued in multiple layers to give room for the pieces to slide.
- Marked a.o.: “Instant Set”, “SG323”, “Designed by Wall”, “Shift Register Stage”, “C2686 Address” and “CV706 Address”
- Probably 1980's
Question:
- Can anyone throw any light on this?
Most of the remarks on the original reddit.com web page are simply bogus, for instance the issue of punched cards. The issue is the coding / decoding of binary (sub)sequences as they typically appear in microprogramming and message streams. IMHO, nothing substantial can be said without any further information. The “Address” being composed of “Personal” and “Squadron” might indicate military messaging. Karl Kleine
